HBS New Energies secure major solar PV contract for new phases at award-winning Elmsbrook Eco-Town

We are proud to announce that HBS New Energies have been selected to design, supply and install a 793.2 kWp new build solar PV scheme across 228 highly sustainable new homes at phases 3 and 4 of the award-winning Elmsbrook Eco-Town development in North West Bicester.

In a joint venture partnership between A2 Dominion and Crest Nicholson the £80 million residential scheme is set to deliver 232 two, three, four and five-bedroom eco-homes over the 25-acre Elmsbrook site. Of these new homes, 30% are for affordable housing, while the remaining homes will be available for private sale.

Elmsbrook is one of the UK’s first zero-carbon communities and has had glowing industry recognition to date, having won gold in the Sustainability Award at the Constructing Excellence Awards 2016.

Roger Martin, Crest Nicholson, Senior Quantity Surveyor said:

‘‘We selected HBS New Energies as the schemes trusted solar PV partner having demonstrated a faultless performance at Oakgrove, one of Crest Nicholson’s large-scale developments in Milton Keynes.

I found HBS extremely helpful in every stage of the tender process for Elmsbrook. The team provided excellent communication and expert guidance with regards to value engineering and design to ensure the scheme met its strict energy targets on budget.’’

Committed to helping build more sustainable, greener homes

Designed and built to the highest specifications, the next phases of Elmsbrook will offer eco-efficient new homes within a sustainable community. The contemporary properties will all benefit from rain water harvesting systems, electric car charging, solar PV panels and will be heated by a district heating network connecting to a CHP (combined heat and power) energy centre.

To ensure Elmsbrook achieves its energy targets and local planning conditions, our design team identified and value engineered a black integrated system suitable across all mixed house types, with system sizes ranging from 2.4-4.5 kWp. This offered the most cost-effective solution for Elmsbrook (Crest A2D) LLP, whilst offering a sleek and visually pleasing finish for each new home.

When complete, the 793.2 kWp new build solar PV scheme will generate an estimated 759,888 kWh in annual zero carbon electricity. The inclusion of solar panels on all new eco-homes will help to offset the developments carbon footprint by 379.944 tonnes per year.

Construction for phase 3 and 4 began on site in Spring 2018 and our dedicated solar project teams are due to commence on site in the coming weeks. For more information on this exciting project please visit the development’s dedicated website here.

James Bull, HBS New Energies, Managing Director said:

‘‘This unique, zero carbon eco-town in Bicester is truly an exciting project for HBS to stamp its mark on. Elmsbrook offers a perfect opportunity for our team of experts to demonstrate why HBS New Energies are at the forefront of delivering solar power for the housebuilding industry.

We look forward to supporting Crest Nicholson in the construction of this innovative and sustainable community, one that will set the standard for future new towns to follow.’’

Jo Nutbeen, HBS New Energies, Business Development Manager added:

‘‘We’re delighted to have secured this fantastic flagship project for HBS. Crest Nicholson are a fantastic client and this is just another example of how we understand their key drivers in terms of carbon reduction. I am excited to see the use of integrated solar on such a large-scale.’’
