Lovell award HBS New Energies solar PV contract for Bulford scheme
We are pleased to announce that Lovell has awarded HBS New Energies the contract to design, supply and install solar PV systems for 186 new homes that are under construction at a major residential development on the Bulford site on Salisbury Plain.
Bulford forms part of a contract worth £250 million awarded to Lovell by the Ministry of Defence to build a total of 917 new homes, with further schemes under construction at sites in Larkhill and Ludgershall.
The fast-paced homebuilding project, which is targeting a handover rate of 20 new homes a week under the Army Basing Programme (ABP) will provide first-class living accommodation for up to 4,000 service personnel and their families, who are relocating from Germany by 2020.
HBS New Energies has been specially selected to help meet the project’s demanding schedule after demonstrating its industry experience and strong track record installing solar PV systems on high-volume residential projects for the UK’s leading housebuilders.
James Bull, HBS New Energies Managing Director said:
‘‘Following the award of this PV contract, we are delighted to continue our partnership with Lovell and help construct new homes that are both sustainable and energy efficient. HBS brings a wealth of new build solar PV expertise to the Bulford scheme and we look forward to working with the wider supply chain and Lovell site management to ensure the successful delivery of this project to the highest standards, at the fast pace required.’’
Value engineered solar PV systems
The Bulford scheme which includes multiple house types, all built using a traditional, timber frame solution, and will boast an energy performance equivalent to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
To help ensure the development meets its energy targets and local planning conditions, our design team identified a roof mounted solution suitable for the mixed house types, with system sizes ranging from 2.7-3.5 kWp. Through our value engineered approach, this proved to be the most cost-efficient option for the developer, one that will meet the energy targets required within budget.
When complete, the 607.2 kWp new build solar PV scheme at Lovell Bulford will generate an estimated 535,479 kWh in annual zero carbon electricity. By specifying solar on these new homes, Lovell will be able to offset the developments carbon footprint by 268 tonnes per year.
Construction on site is progressing at some pace after Lovell’s completion of essential pre-commencement works, which began in spring 2017. HBS’s solar project teams are now supporting site management and have commenced the PV system installations.
