Lovell appoint HBS Group Southern to deliver Mechanical & Electrical services for 225 new homes at Bulford

We’re pleased to announce that Lovell has awarded HBS Group Southern the contract to design, install and maintain all plumbing and heating and electrical services for 225 new homes being built at their fast-paced Bulford site, a development of Service Family Accommodation on Salisbury Plain.

The Bulford development forms part of a contract worth around £250 million awarded to Lovell by the Ministry of Defence to build a total of 917 new homes, with further schemes now under construction at sites in Larkhill and Ludgershall.

Targeting a handover rate of 8 new homes a week, Bulford will provide first-class living accommodation for the service personnel and their families, who are relocating from Germany by 2020. All new homes are being built using a traditional timber frame solution, and will boast an energy performance equivalent to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

This M&E contract award follows on from the recent success of HBS New Energies being selected as the Bulford scheme’s solar PV contractor.

John Leary, Major Projects Director, Lovell, said:

‘‘We are delighted to welcome HBS to join our supply chain for the SFA scheme at Salisbury Plain.  This multi-disciplinary team provides us with an effective ‘one-stop shop’ for all the above ground services with the homes at the Bulford site.  We very much look forward to developing our relationship as we progress the project together over the next twelve months.’’

With the capacity in place to deliver the required 225 units within 12 months, HBS Group’s Mechanical and Electrical management teams will control, monitor and provide all necessary resources to support the completion of around 32 new homes per month. We are committed to maintaining high-quality standards, with stage sign-offs throughout the build programme.

Fully-integrated mechanical and electrical expertise

From August 2018, our project delivery teams will begin on site. Lead by on-site contracts managers, HBS’s combined divisions will manage all aspects of design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the gas, heating, water and electrical system requirements.

HBS New Energies PV installer teams have already started on site at Bulford and are well underway with programming the installation of solar PV systems in line with the demanding targets set by Lovell. When complete, the 607.2 kWp new build solar PV scheme will generate an estimated 535,479 kWh in annual zero carbon electricity and achieve a carbon saving of 268 tonnes per year.

Paul Bailey, Operations Director, HBS Group Southern, commented:

‘‘HBS’s partnership with Lovell on this Bulford project provides the perfect opportunity to demonstrate that our planned management and installation processes will deliver a consistent product at a high delivery rate. We look forward to supporting Lovell on this exciting major development over the next 12 months.’’
